LUME-OVAR is the first ovarian cancer trial where such an antiangiogenic compound is combined with chemo[therapy] and also delivered as an oral compound in the maintenance during two years.
BIBF 1120* will offer to patients, if it is approved, several advantages: First it’s oral in contrast to some other compounds, which must be delivered intravenously. While second, it has three different targets so it might be more effective than those compounds, which has only one target, such as VEGF. And third, and very importantly, particularly in patients who were treated during two years in maintenance for their cancer, it has a very favourable toxicity profile. And it is thus very important for patients to have a well tolerated compound when you take it during months and years.
