A Phase III open-label, randomised trial to assess the efficacy of afatinib* plus vinorelbine versus trastuzumab plus vinorelbine in ErbB2 (HER2)-positive metastatic breast cancer patients after prior treatment with trastuzumab.

Inclusion Criteria

Female patients aged 18 years or older
Patients with stage IV, confirmed ErbB2 (HER2)-positive metastatic breast cancer
(Archived) tumour tissue sample available for central re-assessment of ErbB2 (HER2)-status
Progression after one prior treatment of trastuzumab (either adjuvant or first-line)
Anthracycline and/or taxane based chemotherapy for adjuvant treatment of breast cancer or first-line treatment of metastatic breast cancer ECOG score of 0 or 1
At least one measurable lesion according to RECIST 1.1
