Angiogenesis occurs when new blood vessels feed malignant cells:

Providing oxygen and nutrients
Promoting tumour growth
Allowing tumour cells to escape into the circulation, leading to metastases

Tumour cell migration and metastatic potential rely on access to the circulatory system. This access provides tumor cells an opportunity to travel to distant organs and establish metastases.
