Perivascular cells or pericytes are vascular smooth muscle cells or mural cells which cover the surface of the vascular tube and contribute to the formation and stability of blood vessel walls. They are functional contributors to tumour angiogenesis and therefore potential new targets for antiangiogenic therapies.
